文化祭が終わったあとの校舎は、まだ少しだけ熱を持っていた。
After the school festival ended, the building still seemed to hold a little heat.
屋上へ続く階段には、踏みつぶされた紙吹雪がいくつも残っていた。
On the stairs to the rooftop, pieces of trampled confetti still remained.
扉を開けると、夕方の風が、誰かの笑い声の名残のように頬をかすめた。
When I opened the door, the evening wind brushed my cheek like the trace of someone's laughter.
そこには、片づけを抜け出してきたらしい幼なじみが座っていた。
My childhood friend was sitting there, as if she had slipped away from the cleanup.
「大人になっても、こういう場所に逃げたくなるのかな」
"Do you think we'll still wanna run away to places like this when we're adults?"
私は答えられないまま、遠くの街灯がひとつずつ灯っていくのを見ていた。
Unable to answer, I watched the streetlights in the distance come on one by one.
その沈黙だけが、祭りのあとに残された最後の出し物のようだった。
That silence felt like the final performance left behind after the festival.
